How Useful Is the Smartphone App?

Our customer had a boutique in the Sydney CBD with very large and immovable display cases inside that were very close to the glass. Of course you would want this to present your brand prominently to passing traffic. But this made it very, very hard to keep the inside glass clean, which is important for the image of the store. What made matters worse was that there was some water seepage due to building works which left crusty deposits on the window that were difficult to remove.

This was a real challenge for the robotzoo Glider III. The height of the device on the window is 9.5 cm, and the clearance was 10 cm, so it just fit in between the display case and the glass. To make it more complicated, we could not take advantage of the ‘full auto’  mode of the device, because the window had a unique outer frame, which was ‘reverse bevelled’. The device might have got stuck between this outer frame and the glass, before it bounced off the edge of the window frame itself.

So we had to use the remote control for the device to send it up and down the window safely, without the risk of getting stuck. There is an IR control, but this was a good opportunity to break out the Smartphone App that comes with the robotzoo Glider III as a means of controlling the cleaning route of the device. The window was very dirty inside, and we had to use a decent amount of moisture to get the dried off dirt onto the cleaning cloth. But it worked! Although we had to speed up the video, the amount of dirt that was collected onto the cleaning pads of the device at the end of the clip shows that the device was getting the dirt off.

The smartphone app for the robotzoo Glider III proves to be quite useful in a tricky situation here, where it’s not possible to use ‘full auto’ mode, because the window has some unusual obstructions. Another challenge met, where our clever cleaners show they can get into tight spaces.
