Wombat Junior I Guide - Precautions

Please follow these precautions of the Wombat Junior I User Manual.
Please read these precautions.The precautions must be observed and adhered to.
Failure to observe and adhere to these precautions may result in the warranty being voided.
Robotzoo will not held liable for any loss or injury caused by improper use.
Observe the following:
  • Never store the device in a cold place. Instead, store it in room temperature.
  • Never place the device next to a heat radiating unit, high temperature or fire.
  • Never remove the product casing (the warranty may be voided).
  • Never vibrate the device strongly, or hit it with an implement.
  • Never use the device if any connector is broken.
  • Never touch the device or peripherals with wet hands.
  • Never use the device in wet grass or during thunderstorm.
  • Never let children or pets be in the vicinity of the device.
  • Never put hands or feet near the blades.
  • Never lift or carry the device if the blades are moving.
  • Never use the mower if any of the safety mechanisms is broken.
  • Never use the charger if the power cord is broken.
  • Never detach the charger by pulling on the cord. Take a firm grip of the connector and pull out.
  • Never try to fix a broken power cord or the mower yourself. Turn it in for authorised service.
Important Notes When Using The Mower: 
  1. Make sure there are no items on the lawn that might cause damage to the mower.
  2. The mower does not work if the angle of slope is more than 28°.
  3. Switch off the power when the mower is not in use.
  4. Supervise the mower while working in order to avoid possible hazardous situations.
  5. In emergency situations, press the red emergency stop on top of the mower.
  6. Power off the device when not in use for an extended period.
  7. Charge the mower every 3 months when not in use for an extended period .

Wait until all device components have completely stopped before touching them. The blades continue to rotate after the machine is switched off, and a rotating blade can cause injury.

Do not use a high-pressure washer or a garden hose to clean the device. Water ingress may damage internal electrical components.

Check the perimeter wire is fully pegged to the ground avoiding any slackness in the wire. Loose wire can be a trip hazard, and/or might be cut by the blades.

Setting Up The Charging Station

Note: The base station should be positioned on the outer edge of the surface to be mowed on the boundary wire. It should not be positioned next to a storage room or a garden house that is placed like an island in the middle of the surface to be mowed.
  • The location of the base station must be even and firm.
  • The base station adapter must have access to a power supply.
  • There must be no obstacles or corners within 2 meters in front.
  • Fix the front part of the boundary wire under the station.
  • Align the boundary wire to the grooves under the station.
  • Lay the wire on the lawn in an anticlockwise direction.

  • Ensure that no objects or other items are located in the area marked in red (picture at left), that might obstruct the robotic lawnmower during edge cutting.
  • Peg the boundary wire to the lawn about every 2 metres (or, bury the boundary wire).
  • Note the distance between the wire and the lawn edge. (it should not less than 40cm).
  • Fix the base station to the ground with pegs.

  • To protect the base station from being hit by the mower, arrange the wire around the station as shown

Note:
  • The mower will follow the wire to return to the station.
  • The mower will follow the wire in a clockwise direction.
  • So, face the station to the wire in a way to allow this.

Setting The Mowing Height

Please follow these instructions of the Wombat Junior I User Manual.
The mowing height can be adjusted from 2.5cm to 5.5cm.
This is performed by adjusting the knob beside the display panel (see right).
 
Note : Make sure that the power is off before performing this operation.

Setting Up The Boundary Wire

Referring to the diagram above:
A)       The boundary wire connects at the back of the base station and runs underneath it.
  • It should run in an anticlockwise direction along the lawn edge.
  • It should return to the back side of the base station.
  • DO NOT BURY THE WIRE MORE THAN 3CM DEEP, OR THE MOWER MAY NOT DETECT IT.
B)       The boundary wire must pass through the middle of the base station, under the marks.
  • There should be at least 2 meters of straight run up to the base station (see A on diagram).
C)       The least distance of straight line of boundary wire should be no less than 1.5 meters. (see B on diagram). D)       The corners of boundary wire should have an inner angle of at least 125 degrees. E)       When there is a fixed obstruction in the lawn (eg. flower bed or tree), it should be isolated.
  • Obstructions in the lawn (eg. trees, rocks, flower beds, etc…) can be isolated as shown below.
F)Other than the first 2 meters of the boundary wire leading to the charging station, the distance of the boundary wire to the lawn edge should not be less than 30cm.

G) When laying out the boundary wire, peg it tightly against the ground.
  • The pegs should be inserted every 2-3 meters.
  • Place the pegs closer together if there are depressions (see right).

H) After the boundary wire is laid, reserve 10-15cm of wire for the ends

  • Strip 2-3cm of plastic sheating from the terminal ends.
  • This is to expose the copper wire (see right).

I) Loosen the nuts at the rear of the base station
  • Attach wires to conductors as shown, and tighten nuts (see right) – front end to the red pole, rear end to the black pole.
  • When the charger and boundary wires are comnnected and on – the red lamp should be off.

Do not fold or coil the boundary wire. Cut it instead (see right)

Wombat Junior I Guide - Operation

Starting the Mower

1. Operation of Display Screen
  • Press the power button” “, the screen shows “ENTER PIN CODE”,
  • Input the initial password (0000) to enter the operation interface (As per Figure 1)
  • Note: Navigation in the screen is controlled with the help of the three buttons below the screen. The display panel shows the function of the buttons directly above the respective button.
1.1 Press START to turn on the mower:
  • Place the mower on the boundary wire. with mower head facing charge station: (As per Figure 2):
1.1.1 Place the mower within 50cm in front of the base station, and press “start”.
  • The mower should move forward to connect with the base station.
  • The points at the front of the mower should touch the paddles of the base station.
  • When this happens, the light on the base station should turn red.
  • Then, the mower will reverse out, turn right into the yard, and go off the wire and start to mow.

Running the Mower

  • The robot mower will cut along the fence line first, two circles: 1st circle on the fence line, 2nd circle a little inside the fence line.
  • After cutting the edge, the mower will cut inside.
  • After every 5 times charging, the mower will cut along the fence automatically.
  • If the user presses “HOME”, “STOP”, or OFF button , it will erase history and start over.
1.2 Press MENU to set function 1.3 Press HOME to direct the mower back to the charge station. Commonly used in the following situations … 1.3.1 To stop the mower during mowing:
  • Press “HOME”. The mower will go back to the base station.
  • In this state, the blades will stop, and mower will go back to base station for charging.
  • After it is fully charged, the mower won’t restart by itself, it will need to be started manually.

Wombat Junior I Guide - Program Settings

Please follow these instructions of the Wombat Junior I User Manual.
Place the mower clockwise on the wire in front of the station in order to start configuring the functional settings. Press “MENU” to set the functions. The screen offers you different selection options:

Set the indicating LANGUAGE:

Select to set the indicating language.
Press “OK”, then select one of the available choices.
Press “OK” again.

Set the 4 digit PIN CODE:

1) Enter PIN code: input initial password “0000”.
2) Enter new PIN code: to input new password.
3) Confirm new PIN: to input new password again.
4) When it shows PIN accepted, the new PIN has been accepted, and will return automatically.
5) If the PIN is incorrect, the screen shows:
  • PIN not accepted. Press “OK” to return.

Set the TIME & DATE:

1) Select “Set time” to set the local time.
Press “OK” to confirm, then return.
2) Select “Set date” to set the local date.
– Press “OK” to confirm, then return.
3) Select “Time format” to set time format as 12 or 24 hrs.
Press “OK” to confirm. (24 hours is the default setting)
4) Return to the main menu.

Select the SETTINGS:

Settings selections are  “Edge Cut“, “Beep“, or “Reset“.
The “Edge Cut” function can be switched “ON” or “OFF“.
The mower is set to cut the edges every five cycles.
If “Edge Cut” is OFF, it will do it once only in any mode.
If “Beep” is selected, it can be switched “ON” or “OFF”.
If “Reset” is selected, the device asks to “Reset all data“.
All data, including the PIN code, gets reset.

Setting the Working MODE:

Mode 1: Manual
In Manual mode, the device will run until it is turned off.
It will work, charge, and work, … until it is stopped.
To run in manual mode:
  1. Place the mower 0.5m in front of the station.
    • Select “Manual” & press “OK“,
    • The screen will show “SAVED“,
    • A tick mark will appear before “Manual“,
    • Return to the main menu, and,
    • MANUAL” will display on the start screen.
  2. Press the “Start” button on the keypad and the mower will move into the charging station
    • When the mower contacts meet the pins on the charging station, it will start working.
    • It will mow along the boundary wire two times, and then mow inside the boundary.

Mode 2: Auto
Select the Auto work mode if the mower should mow every day at the same time. Let the mower stand in front of the station after the password is input and do not turn it off. It will wait there until the start time is reached and then begin mowing. To run in auto mode:
  1. Put the mower 0.5 meter in front of the charging station, facing the charging station.
    • Select “Auto” & press “OK“. The screen shows as at right.
    • Set the desired work time with the help of the digits on the keypad. (The work time can be set from 00:00 to 24:00.)
    • Press OK. Return to the functional settings.
    • AUTO” will display on the start screen.
  2. Don’t turn off the mower, leave it there.

Mode 3: Schedule
Choose the Schedule work mode to use the area function, or to mow on select days. Let the mower stand in front of the station after the password is input and do not turn it off. It will wait there until the Start time point is reached and then begin mowing. To set the working schedule:
  1. Put the mower 0.5m in front of the charging station, facing the charging station.
    • Select “Schedule” & press “OK“.
    • The screen will display the TIPS message.
    • Confirm with OK, and then the SCHEDULE menu will appear
  2. Choose from the options: “Work Mode“, “Work Hours“, “Work days” or “Reset timer“.
    • First choose the work mode and press “OK“.
    • Now choose from “Full area” or “Area 1, 2, 3“.

    1. Choose “Full area” if you WOULD NOT like to define different areas.
      1. If the “Full area” work mode is selected, the “Work hour” must be defined.
      2. To define the working hours:
        1. Select “WORK HOURS” and confirm with OK.
          • The screen at right is displayed.
        2. Enter the desired start time, using the keypad.
          • Define the start time (hh:mm).
          • The cursor will move to the work time.
          • Define the work time (in minutes).
          • Confirm the input using “OK“.
          • The screen will show “Saved” and return to Schedule mode.
      3. Note: The maximum work time is limited to 249 min.
      4. With a net work time of 249 min., the charging time is not included
       
    2. Choose “Area 1,2,3” if you WOULD like to define different areas.
      1. If “Area 1, 2, 3” is selected, up to 3 start points may be stored.
      2. You can specify up to three different starting points within the lawn area.
      3. This selection defines the next operation of programming:
          1. Select “WORK HOURS” and confirm with OK.
            • The screen at right is displayed.
          2. Enter the desired start time and interval for each area, 1,2,& 3.
            • Define the start time (hh:mm), the cursor will move the work time.
            • Define the work time (in minutes).
            • Confirm the input using “OK“.
            • The screen will show “Saved” and return to Schedule mode.
            • The individual start points are set in the menu option AREA.
            • Read the item AREA in the Operator’s Manual for this purpose.

    1. The procedure for “Full area” as well as “Area 1, 2, 3” is identical.

Charging

Please follow these instructions of the Wombat Junior I User Manual.
The mower can be charged at the base station. It will find its way to the station for charging automatically when it needs to recharge. The extruding poles of the mower should be in contact with the respective paddles of the base station.
  • If the light is red: the robot mower is charging.
  • If the light is green: charging finished, the mower will stand 2-3cm back from the station.
  • If the light is off: no power, check the connection between adapter and charging station.
  • If the light is flashing: no connection between the station and wire, please check.
  • If the light is off: after connecting the wire, the light will be off if the connection is right.

Note:
  • The charger plugs must be well connected to the base station and with the nuts tightened
  • The battery must be fully charged before first use;
  • The two paddles (mower charging points) of the base station are electrified (24V DC).
  • To avoid short circuit, the paddles must never touch with any conductor when the charger is connected to the base station.

Wombat Junior I User Manual - Troubleshooting

For any fault of the machine, please always check the charging station first, to see if it is working properly. (eg. boundary wire is connected and not cut, or that the AC power has not shut down when the machine is working). The lamp on the charging station will be flashing red if there’s such problem.
The mower does not start.
a) There may be a break in the boundary wire. Check the boundary wire for repair.
b) Check the emergency stop switch. If the emergency stop switch is locked, press the emergency stop switch then press the red power switch.
c) If the mower has not been used for a long while, the battery may be empty. Make sure to charge it again after charging.
Even when unused, it is recommended that the battery is charged every 3 months.
The mower does not move forward.
a) The bumper sensor may be damaged.
b) If the grass is very long at the first mow, it may will shelter the sensor tube.
(In this case, mow the grass with a traditional lawn mower before using the robot mower.)
The mower does not mow properly or at all.
a) Turn off the mower. Check if the blades are properly installed. Replace the blades if damaged.
b) If the mower is in a slope which has an angle more than 28 degrees, the mower will automatically stop.
c) The root part of the blade holder might be stuck by objects or grass. Remove any objects and restart.
d) The grass may too dense to be mowed due to the automatic overload protection of the device.
e) The device may have stopped to protect the PCBs and other components when it detected that the motor temperature is too high.
The mower crosses the fence line and continues outside the perimeter.
a) The fence line turn angle is too steep. The inner angle must be at least 125 degrees.
b) The fence line is too close to a slope. Adjust the fence line position to be in accordance to the recommendations.
c) The fence line signal may be weakened. The fence line must not exceed 200m.
d) Check if there are any high-power appliance (such as transformers, generators, telecommunications towers, etc.) nearby.
Those appliances could interfere with the device signals.
The mower does not charge properly, or it repeatedly bumps the charge station.
a) The extruding poles of the charger might not be making contact with the paddles of the charging station.
b) The extruding poles or the paddles may be dirty. Clean them. (Make sure to disconnect the power before cleaning.)
c) If the device is left for a  long time without being charged, battery may be permanently damaged.
If the battery is slightly damaged, try re-charging it many times over. If this doesn’t work,  change the battery.
d) The sensor of the device may be damaged.
The mower does not return to the charging station for charging.
a) The fence line may be too long.
The battery level may not be enough to return the mower to the charging station.
Turn off the mower and carry it to the station.
b) If the mower was stopped by an obstacle it will stop working.
The sub-area function is not working.
Each working area needs to have a working time set.
The island setup is not working.
The island should be a circle, not a square.
The mower runs in a circle around the island and never goes to the working area.
The mower will go around 3 circles of an island, or for about 40 seconds, then go to the working area.

Warranty

  • The Wombat Junior warranty is covered for 12 months from the date of original purchase.
  • The warranty is void if the product has been altered, misused, or has been repaired by unauthorised personnel.
  • The warranty extends only to manufacturing defects and does not cover any damage resulting from misuse of the product by the owner.
  • The sales invoice must be presented for any claim or repair during the warranty period.
