More About Window Cleaner Spare Parts From robotzoo
Rechargeable Lithium Ion internal batteries and power supplies.
Â
Our robotic pool cleaners are unique in that they are all internally battery driven, powered by rechargeable lithium ion battery packs.
We aren’t the only ones who have battery operated models, but our models pioneered this technology.
Other suppliers are catching up, or even copying our devices.
But our long experience with using lithium batteries in pool cleaners gives us unique insights in this specialised application.
The battery pack is a very important component for the pool cleaner.
It is especially important to keep the battery, motors and internal circuitry dry.
So all these components must be contained in a sealed drive unit. Batteries must be able to be replaced.
But it’s not simply a case of ‘swap and go’, like with many hand tools.
Please refer to out article on lithium ion batteries.
Everybody knows that lithium ion batteries need to be well cared for, but not everybody knows why.
It’s because the battery packs are made up of individual cells that are wired in series and parallel.
And the loss or permanent damage of any one cell will reduce the overall power available from the pack by the amount of that cell.
There is no ‘balancing out’ of maximum power when it comes to battery packs.
Over time, as the battery cell is charged and depleted, the maximum voltage attainable will fall.
This will meant that the run time of the pool cleaner will be come shorter and shorter.
From ninety minutes, to one hour, and then less and less. This is expected behaviour over time.
Filter baskets/trays, lids, covers and other components
Â
These pool cleaner spare parts may be considered as consumables.
But they are also very durable, and we don’t expect them to wear out.
And that has been our experience as well.
External parts like lids, guards, covers and handles my become scuffed and worn.
They may also fade a little if exposed to the elements, especially sunlight.
However, this won’t affect the efficient operation of the device.
Foam/Nylon rollers, and wheels.
Â
The rollers and wheels are also highly durable, and are able to withstand a lot of wear and tear.
If your pool surface is especially rough, like quartzite, and you are using the softer foam rollers, then it is more likely that you may want to replace the rollers after a few years, but that hasn’t been our experience.
Notwithstanding, we keep plenty of spares.
Internal electronic components and motors.
Â
It is of course especially important to keep any internal electronic components and motors dry.
Moisture is the main thing that can damage these components. And so they are placed in a watertight drive unit.
The drive unit does rely on seals and bearings, which are a potential source of water ingress.
However, our experience when opening up the sealed drive units has been that the seals and bearings have been watertight.
Drive Belts, Roller belts.
Â
The most common damage we see with our pool cleaners is breakage of the drive belts. That is, for those models which use a drive belt.
The drive belt is a very inexpensive part, and very easy to replace. And we make sure that we always have a lot of these on hand, incase any owner needs one.
