Balmain Bug I Guide - Precautions
Please read these precautions.The precautions must be observed and adhered to.
Failure to observe and adhere to these precautions may result in the warranty being voided.
Robotzoo will not held liable for any loss or injury caused by improper use.
- Read this manual carefully before use, and operate the device as specified in this manual.
- Do not allow children to operate or ride on the device, or play with it as a toy.
- Use only spare parts accessories that are recommended or sold by robotzoo.
- Use only the original and authorised power adapter with the device.
- If the power adapter or its cables are damaged, do not use them, and have them replaced.
- Do not use the device if the water temperature is greater than 35°C, or below 10°C.
- Do not charge the device if the air temperature is above 40°C, or below 10°C.
- Do not power on the device when it is out of the water.
- Always use an earthed and leakage protected wall socket when re-charging the device.
- Always power off the device whenever it is being maintained, cleaned or not in use.
- Always clean and wash the filter basket after use.
- Always store the device in a cool and ventilated place, away from the pool, and from direct sunshine, when re-charging or not in use.
- Always ensure the charging port is clean and dry before connecting the power adapter leads.
- If the device is being stored, it needs to be charged and discharged every three months, in order to maintain battery life.
- Do not use the charger supplied to charge other appliances.
- Do not cover the device with anything when re-charging, to prevent the damage of internal electrical components caused by overheating.
- Do not open or disassemble the sealed driving/power kit of the device, without approval from robotzoo.
- Do not puncture or drop the sealed drive unit (or the device).
- It is recommended not to operate the device while pool filter is running.
- It is recommended not to over-charge the device, as this will reduce the battery life.
- It is recommended not to operate the device when there are people in the pool, to avoid damage to the device.
Balmain Bug I User Manual - Introduction
- The robotzoo Balmain Bug I is a new type of efficient and energy-saving pool cleaner.
- The device will clean the pool walls and bottom automatically without replacing the pool water.
- The device will ‘self-beach’ when the battery runs out.Â
- This means that it will come to rest beside the wall of the pool, so the device pulled out of the pool.

Installation & Use
Turning on the device
- The power ON/OFF switch is located on the left side of the device (rollers facing forward).
- The power indicator light is located at the top of the device (rollers facing forward).
- The cleaner will start working after emptying trapped air inside (about 20s).
The indicator light should be blue when the power switch is turned ON.
Using the device
- Hold the top handle and immerse the device in water up to the switch
- Power on the device by pushing the switch to the ON position.
- The cleaner will start working after emptying trapped air inside (about 20s).
Once the device has negative bouyancy after emptying its trapped air, it will descend to the pool floor.
Placing the device into the pool
- Put the device into, or lift it out, of the pool, using the handle.
- Position the device with its bottom towards the wall.
- Do not put the device into the pool upside down.
- Ensure that the device lands with its wheels firmly touching the pool floor.
Removing the device from the pool
- When the device is out of battery power, it will come to rest beside the wall of the pool.
- Lift the device out from the pool floor, with the hook provided, attached to a pole.
- When lifting the device, avoid contact with the wall, to prevent damage to the cleaner or wall.
- Turn the device off at the surface by pushing the switch, to expose the charging terminals.
- Hold the device on the surface for 10-15 sec, to empty water before removing from the pool.

- Remove the cleaner from the pool and place it near an electrical outlet.
- The switch needs to be in the OFF position in order to expose the charging port.
- Ensure that the charging points in the charging port are clean and dry.
- Connect the power adapter to the charging port, and plug into mains power.
- When mains power is turned on, the indicator light on the adapter should turn red.
- The device should take up to 4-5 hours to fully recharge.
- When the device is fully recharged, the indicator on the power adapter will show green.
Please pay particular attention to the following instructions about re-charging the device batteries.
- Your pool water is an ionic solution that will carry an electric current.
- And the electrodes inside the charger connection are made of copper.
- The combination of electric current, copper electrodes, and ionic solution is a recipe for electrolysis.
- Over time, continued recharging while wet will corrode the electrodes and charging points on the device, and they may break off.
Status Light Indicators
Device Indicators – (whilst working)
- Blue (steady): Power has been turned on
- Blue (flashing): Cleaner is in working mode
- Yellow (flashing): Battery is low, and the device will end its run soon
- Yellow (steady):Â The device has ended its run, and has ‘beached’ itself
Charger Indicators – (whilst charging)
- Green: Device is fully charged.
- Red (steady): Charging in progress Note: Some chargers have been observed not to show green light when device fully charged. If the device has been charging a long time (>5hrs), please ignore & use the device.
Cleaning the filter tray

1. Open the top covers by pressing the tabs.
2. Lift the filter trays from the chassis.
3. Empty and rinse the filter trays
Smartphone Control
The robotzoo Balmain Bug I is one of the new breed of advanced home robots that allow
owners to easily control and program their devices.
The introduction of remote control and programming by smartphone is the first step in this journey.
The WYRobot app for smartphone control can be downloaded for from the Apple store (for iPhone), or from Google Play (For Android).
Smartphone Control - Setup
Follow the instructions given here in the Balmain Bug User Manual
- Make sure Bluetooth is active. Download and activate the WYRobot app.
- Push the power button ON, so the blue indicator light is on.
- Push the power button backward and forward in 5 seconds, then purple indicator light flashes.
- Press the ‘search device’ button on the smartphone. (The app will search for and display the serial number of the nearest robot.)
- Click on the serial number displayed on the screen.
- Set up the pool information and cleaning mode (see settings below)

- The product warranty for the Balmain Bug I is for 24 months from the date of its original purchase.
- The warranty is void if the product has been altered, misused, or has been repaired by unauthorised personnel.
- The warranty extends only to manufacturing defects and does not cover any damage resulting from misuse of the product by the owner.
- The sales invoice must be presented for any claim or repair during the warranty period.
